A Century of stories.
As you may have picked up from our meetings, we have been actively involved with the Century of Stories
This was a county project seeking to help people discover their own relatives from WW1 and beyond, and also to work with existing organisations and people to promote stories of the time of the First World War and beyond to a wider audience.
During March, at Snibston Discovery Park, was an exhibition in the downstairs area opposite the cafe, of various things associated with Century of Stories, including some stuff we sent them. Our stuff features former Thringstone headmaster Theophilus Jones who was the first British soldier killed on home soil in WW1, and the stories of Mary Elizabeth Wardle and Annie Freeman who were in the WAAC, which we featured about 2 months ago in our own history report at our meeting.
If you haven't been to Snibston, do think of having a look at the wonderful stuff on display there. In addition to our stuff, there is stuff from Donington le Heath, Bosworth and various school projects.
As it was in the foyer area, you didn't have to pay to see it.
